Tony started his career as a Financial Controller at Virgin Communications in London before moving on to be a Senior Financial Analyst at Warner Music International. He then moved to Malaysia to take on the Managing Director role at Warner Music Malaysia, eventually becoming the Vice President of ASEAN at Warner Music South East Asia.
Since launching AirAsia, Tony has received numerous state awards as well as accolades from international press and industry observers for his exemplary performance, dedication, and contribution to the aviation industry in Malaysia and Asia. Internationally, his outstanding contributions to the French aviation industry were recognized with the title Commander of the Legion d’Honneur, the highest rank of honor that the French Government can bestow on non-French citizens. In 2011, he was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
He was also named Forbes Asia Businessman of the Year 2010, the first Malaysian and ASEAN citizen to receive the award. Recently, Tony was given the Fourth Pillar Award by the US-ASEAN Business Council for his extraordinary contribution towards the growth of ASEAN and the US-ASEAN relationship, the second recipient after President Obama.
Tony received his degree from the London School of Economics in Accounting.
